How To Change The Program Of A File Type

This guide is going to show you how you can change the program of a file type.

What does that mean exactly?

Have you ever downloaded something and now, every time you open a certain type of file it opens with that program?

You can change any file extension to be run with any application on your laptop.

Here is how to do it...

First go to Start -> My Computer

Click on Tools -> Folder Options

folder options

From here, click on the File Types tab.

change extension

Select the file type that you want to change. It will then tell you what program currently opens files of that type.

Hit the Change button

recommended file

It will give a list of recommended files to open this file type. It is strongly encouraged that you use one of those files.

However, you don't have to. You can open it up with any program that you want.

This tip will be sure to come in handy for you every now and then. I used this whenever Real Player was trying to open up all of my mp3 songs.

I also used this when Internet Explorer was trying to open up my browser instead of Firefox.

Little things like this can certainly be a nuisance. But with this tip you will know how to handle it.
