How To Quickly Get Rid Of The Dell Preloaded Software
I received an interesting email pertaining to Dell preloaded software...
"I have just ordered a new Dell E1505 laptop. I read all the reviews that I could, before ordering, and all seemed to indicated that Dell puts a lot of pre-loaded crap software on it. Do you know of any quick, foolproof way for a newbie to take all this crap software off the new computer? I would assume that simply uninstalling does not do the trick, but requires going to the start-up menu and registry to actually do this. I'm not that computer literate, and am leery of messing with the registry. Any suggestions?"
To answer the question, Yes, Dell does include a lot of pre-loaded software when you purchase a laptop from them.
And more then likely, most of it you will find completely useless and will want to get rid of it immediately.
So what is a person to do about this?
First understand this, don't completely hate all of this added software that Dell puts on your laptop computer. It's one of the reasons that your laptop was as cheap as it is.
If it wasn't for the pre-installed software, you would probably be paying an additional $100-$200 for your laptop.
So it's kind of hard to hate it entirely.
What Can You Do About It?
If you purchased your Dell with the reinstallation CD you can completely reinstall your operating system.
This CD that can be purchased as an add-on (usually around $10) will get rid of most of the "crapware" that your laptop comes with.
However, there is a much safer and simpler solution.
When you first get your laptop, go to the Add Remove Programs if you have Windows XP. If you have Windows Vista go to Programs and Features.
You can find both of these in the Control Panel.
From here, simply take a look at all of the programs that are on your computer. If there is anything that you don't want then remove it.
After about 10-20 minutes you will have gotten rid of about 95% of the Dell preloaded software that so many people complain about.
All the other junk will take up about 0.001% of your laptop so you don't really need to worry about it. Chances are you will never even notice it on their.
This same technique works for other laptop brands as well.
In fact, their are much worse laptop brands when it comes to pre-installed software. For some reason, Dell seems to take all of the heat for this.
Probably the only brand that doesn't do it is Apple. Which is part of the reason why their computers cost so much more than other brands!
So don't listen to people that tell you not to purchase a specific brand because of the pre-installed software.
You get a computer cheaper by having it on their. And after about 15 minutes of uninstalling, you just saved yourself a couple hundred dollars.
