Say whatever bad things that you want, but at the beginning of 2007 these brands are #1 and #2 at total computers sold on the market. With HP having a slight edge.

Why are so many people buying from them?

The price is certainly one of the biggest reasons. All of the other companies can't seem to be able to compete with Dell and HP's price tag.

Dell has always been one of the leaders in the laptop industry as far as costs go. By selling all of their laptops direct, they avoid selling through retailers (aka the "middle-man"). They then pass on those savings to you.

HP works similar in that many of their laptops are purchased directly by phone or from their official site. However, you can also purchase a laptop through a retailer. But at an increased price of course.

How Do You Choose Between The Two?

One thing is for certain, if you purchase a laptop from either one of the companies you are getting a quality laptop at a great price.

They sell thousands upon thousands of laptops a day so they must be doing something right.

If you are looking for an entertainment laptop, check out the official sites of both Dell and .

They are both having new promotions on almost a daily basis. So see what looks most interesting to you.

If you want your laptop to be able to hold all of your songs and videos and Dell is having a free 120GB hard drive upgrade, then you may want to go with Dell.

The same goes for an HP promotion. Because these laptop brands have proven time and time again their quality, it may be wise to simply decide based on who has the better promotion at the time.

Difference In Looks

One noticeable difference between Dell vs HP is their looks. Dell tends to have a standard look while HP has a more glossy look.

For the most part, more people feel that HP has "better-looking" laptops. But you also hear reports that their shiny look is more prone to fingerprint marks. Which makes you have to clean the outside a lot more.

What matters most though is what you want. For some people, looks are important. And for others not so much.

Just know that if looks are important, but you don't want to clean fingerprint marks all the time then Dell may be a better options.
