Common HP Laptop Problems :
Troubles and Issues with HP Laptops
HP is one of the leading manufacturers of consumer and business laptops. Although some HP laptop problems do occur, the brand is generally trusted. Which explains why many laptop buyers stay with HP year after year.
Overall, the mini computers made by HP perform well on any computing environment. So if you want a laptop at home, at the office, or for mobile computing, then HP can serve you well.
The company produces some of the fastest and power-packed laptops in the industry. But because these laptops are electronic devices, you might encounter several issues or problems that are common to all electronic gadgets.
Here is a quick look at some of the common HP laptop problems. By getting a clear idea of some of the potential problems that you may encounter, you will be able to decide better if HP is right for you.
Mechanical and Power Problems
Many consumers found out that their HP laptops have cracked hinges. A cracked hinge is a physical problem and usually not covered by the warranty.
However, more and more consumers have complained that their HP laptops have defective hinges. HP issued an advisory promising to repair cracked hinges. The problem is that most consumers found out too late that their laptops have hinge problems and never met the deadline set by HP.
On the other hand, the HP Pavilion series has shown signs of weakness in its power jack. The weak power jack will cause power fluctuations and intermittent machine shutdowns. In some cases, the damage on the power jack will get so severe that the laptop will not start anymore.
Mother Board Issues
In the HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop and with the DV2000 and F series, startup problems have been traced to motherboard issues. Motherboard failure is fairly widespread with these models. The problems seems to be connected with overheat which could destroy most motherboards.
The motherboard issues on HP laptops are more frequent on AMD/Broadcom cased machines. HP released an update on its BIOS and on its machines based on AMD. This makes the fan run more consistently to cool the laptop. In exchange, this will have you suffering a bit more on battery life.
Frequent Shutdowns and Boot-Up Failures
Some consumers have even reported annoying shutdowns with their HP laptops. Whether this is due to the laptop, or their lack of care is hard to tell.
There are also cases reported where their laptop will not start at all.
Remember, it's a numbers game when buying laptops. With millions being made, there's bound to be one or two bad apples in the bunch.
Startup problems such as these usually deal with the failure of the laptop recognizing the wireless card. Some consumers experience wireless card incompatibility and this is usually followed by total start up failure.
A variation of this problem is the unexpected shutdown of the laptop. In some cases, when a shutdown happens, the laptop will fail to restart or boot-up again.
These are some common HP laptop problems that you may encounter. But do take note that such problems are fairly common with other brands of laptops as well.
The best that you can do is to immediately contact the customer service of HP once you encounter even the smallest performance or physical problem with your laptop.
Laptop warranties are one of the few "electrical warranties" you'll ever find that are actually worth it!
When purchasing a laptop, strongly consider the extended warranty. Especially if you are prone to a few spills or drops with your laptop! :-)
