How To Turn Your Laptop Into A Free Fax Machine

Laptops are expensive. But that is because they are capable of doing so many things. A free fax machine is just one of the many things that you are able to do when you have a laptop.

The first thing that you need to do in order to fax something is to set up the fax machine on your laptop. You can do this by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes

*If you don't see the icons you need to click on Switch to Classic View on the left side.

From here, you might not have to do anything! Look inside the Printer Tasks box on the left side...

Printer Tasks

If it says Send a fax like it does in the picture above, then it is already set up and ready to go! If it says "Install a Local Fax Printer" then you will need to click on that.

Now that we have it set up, how can we use it?

This is probably a lot easier then you might expect. Let's say that you want to fax a paper that you wrote. Simply go to Microsoft Word or Open Office or wherever you typed your document.

Go to File -> Print (don't worry we are not printing anything)

Select your fax modem as the printer. From there all you have to do is follow some simple instructions. If you haven't added your personal information, it will ask you to do that first.

Then it should ask you for the Recipient Information. After that, your fax will be on the way!

But how do I receive a fax?

If you want to receive a fax you need to go back to "Printers and Faxes" from the Control Panel. Double-click on your fax icon. Then all you have to do is click on File -> Receive a Fax Now whenever you are expecting a fax to be headed your way.

As you can see, turning your laptop into a free fax machine is rather easy. It's just one of the many things that you can do with your laptop.
